A Simple Gesture starts with the formation of the Leadership Team. It can be one person, but it's more fun to bring others into this great process. This page will cover a variety of topics from formation, actions the team needs to take, and other ideas and suggestions.
One person can do all the work to get an ASG Chapter up and running, but it's always more fun (and easier) to do it with others. You will be surprised how many people will want to get involved.
A great team has people with different skills. Finance, planning, area politics, marketing, fund raising, networking, and 'doers' are a great mix. Many people are wanting to get involved in something important, and although that may seem easy to do you may find many people are thankful you gave them the opportunity.
Here are the things your team might do;
Contact them, but it may be good to start slow. You don’t need them to pledge a big time commitment. They may already have a busy schedule. In many cases your team members can make huge contributions just with one idea or one ‘networked connection’. There is a lot of work to be done, but experience has helped us see that these teams seem to always evolve to have a nice balance of doers, thinkers, and networkers.
A successful way to get started is to send an email that contains the following;
If you'd like to see a sample email with all these ideas init, CLICK HERE. Feel free to copy and paste it. Use it as is or modify as you wish.
Nearly everyone you talk to is going to quickly see the value. But you may still meet some resistance; the most common reason not get involved is the concern of how much time it might take. The sample email just mentioned might alleviate these concerns but it may take a follow up phone call as well. The key thing is get them started and see where it goes. A good team is always regenerating itself, bringing in new members with fresh ideas and energy.
A good source for future team members are your donors and drivers, especially the drivers because they are already saying they want to get more involved. The messaging tool in the ASG Event Manager makes it easy to contact your drivers. As Chapter Admin you also have access to all your Users email address and phone number to reach them directly.
Schedule your first meeting. In the next section we get into the topics you need to cover as well as providing you some of the materials you may want to use in that first meeting. It might be a good idea to offer a lunch meeting somewhere, maybe in the back area of a pizza parlor that provides a free meeting area. Buy a couple of pizza's and you are off and running. Or just have the meeting at someone’s home.
